This high quality concentrated product comes as a dry bran powder, in a 25 lb. (10.1 Kg) Plastic pail.
Petro-Clear for hydrocarbons is a highly concentrated microbial product. The spore count in Petro-Clear for hydrocarbons is 5 billion per gram. To give you a point of comparison, most commercial products range from half a billion to 3.5 billion per gram.
The microbes in Petro-Clear for hydrocarbons are in an endosporic (dormant) state. Petro-Clear also contains the nutrients that these microbes need to allow them to “wake up” when they are put in un-chlorinated water.
Each microbe (5 billion per gram) will reproduce geometrically every 30 minutes. By using the natural reproductive capabilities of these microbes, you can use the same techniques that the manufacturers use to extend or to strengthen our Petro-Clear product.
We do this by extending the “wake up time” from a normal 2-12 hours before adding it to the hydrocarbon spill, to 24 -36 hours. While this method does take more time and care and is not suitable for everybody's schedule, these procedures will make the product more economical to use, especially when treating larger bodies of water or heavily contaminated areas.
Our products are already very concentrated, and will work well without these methods using the recommended 4 – 6 hour hydration.
Suggested Dosagees:
Hydration instructions for Petro-Clear Powder: (Preparation of the supernatant)
- Apply on Day 1, Day 30 and Day 60 with a NPK Nutrient .
- Add 1 to 2 lbs Petro-Clear Powder to 5 gallons of water in a +5 gallon container
- Keep the container out of direct sunlight.
- Stir for 30 seconds
- Stir again every few hours.
- Dispense hydrated product after 4 to 8 hours, stir again before using
- Nutrient solution will be required, but mixed and applied separately.
- Apply initial strength of 1 to 2 gallons of hydrated product per cubic meter to get the most even distribution in the soil, depending on aeration technology.
- Soil moisture should be maintained above 20%, i.e. moist but not wet.
Use the higher dose for high levels of contamination to reduce the completion time.
The working range is between 5-45º C (with 28º C being the optimum).
- Effective Temperature Range is 55 - 110°F (12.7 - 43.3°C)
- Optimum Temperature Range is 75 - 90°F (23.9 - 32.2°C)
- Maximum Growth is at 80 - 85°F (26.7 - 29.4°C)
- Growth is Reduced by 50% at 68°F (20.0°C)
- Growth is Reduced by 75% at 50°F (10.0°C)
- No Growth Will Occur Below 40°F (4.4°C)
- pH of 6.5 to 8.5.
What environmental conditions do the microbes need to work?
-
Minimum Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Level is 2.0 ppm for effective aerobic activity
- Copper Levels Must Be Below 0.05 ppm
- Double recommended dosage if water temperature is 68°F (20°C) or less.
- Double recommended dosage for use in saline waters (salinity >8 parts per thousand).
- Keep moist – minimum 20% moisture content.(ie.cover with plastic sheeting)
.
Nutrients
The bran substrate in Petro-Clear already contains the nutrients for the initial “wake up” and hydration of the product. In some cases, depending upon the application, additional nutrients may be required for the remediation.
If additional nutrients are prescribed for your particular application
Use a water soluble 100-10-5- Fertilizer (please ensure that the fertilizer does not contain any additional insecticides or additional nutrients other than the NPK).
